The Proposal

HBMI Pty Ltd. has proposed to expand its existing Level 1 sand extraction operation at Jensens Rd approximately 6 kilometres east-north-east of Scottsdale. The proposal involves the extraction and screening of sand from Mining Lease 50M/1985 at a rate of up to 20,000 cubic metres per annum.

The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).

The proponent lodged a Development Application with a supporting Environmental Effects Report (EER) to the Dorset Council.

The EER was prepared by the proponent on the basis of the project specific guidelines for preparation of a EER which were provided by the Board.

A copy of the permit application, and of all plans and other documentation submitted with the permit application (including the EER) were made available for public inspection. The public comment period is now closed.

Environmental Assessment Report and EPA decision

The environmental assessment report has now been completed and can be viewed below. This report contains an environmental assessment and recommendations to the Board in relation to the proposal.

The permit conditions required by the Board to be included in the land use permit, if a permit is granted by Dorset Council are contained in Appendix 2 of the environmental assessment report.
