The Proposal

Kingborough Council proposed the replacement of an existing damaged effluent sewage outfall in the Lower Derwent Estuary on the western shore of Blackmans Bay with a new outfall extending 600 metres offshore.

The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).

A copy of the permit application, and of all plans and other documentation submitted with the permit application (including the DPEMP) were advertised for public comment. The period for public comment is now closed.

Environmental Assessment Report and EPA decision

The environmental assessment report has now been completed and can be viewed below. This report contains an environmental assessment and recommendations to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority in relation to the proposal.

The permit conditions required by the Board to be included in the land use permit, if a permit is granted, by Kingborough Council are contained in Appendix 4 of the Environmental Assessment Report.
