EPA officers investigate sewage spill at Victoria Dock

03 February 2009
Officers representing the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) are investigating a sewage spill at Victoria Dock in Hobart. EPA Director Warren Jones says the EPA was notified about the spill earlier today. "Our officers went to Victoria Dock and reported the smell as quite odorous and there was visible discoloration of the water in the dock," Mr Jones said. "Samples were collected and these have been taken to the laboratory for testing." "We have been told by the Hobart City Council that a pumping station had failed and their officers were working to rectify the situation." "The council informed us later this afternoon that repairs had been completed and the pumping station was back online." "Public Health has been notified and we have advised the council to erect signs to inform the public about the situation," Mr Jones said.
