The 2010 Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence have attracted a strong field of 26 entries showcasing the latest innovations that integrate sustainable practices across the public, private and community sectors.
They demonstrate great achievements in environmental protection and enhancement, and many show the benefits of partnerships to tackle the challenge of protecting Tasmania’s air, water, soil and ecosystems.
The Awards recognise projects that highlight endeavours in environmental protection and enhancement, education and awareness, leadership, commitment and initiative, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Winners will be announced at a presentation ceremony at Wrest Point on Friday 4 June and will be nominated for the 2010 Banksia Environmental Foundation national environment awards.
As the coordinator and host of this year’s event, the EPA thanks the generous Awards sponsors: at+m integrated marketing, Aurora Energy, CleanBiz Tasmania, Hydro Tasmania, the Local Government Association of Tasmania, Nyrstar, the Packaging Stewardship Forum of the Australian Food and Grocery Council, the Publishers National Environment Bureau, Rio Tinto Alcan and TasmaniaTogether.
The Awards are supported by Australian Paper, Tasmanian Alkaloids and Wrest Point.
