The key findings of a cost benefit analysis for a state-based container deposit system (CDS) in Tasmania have been accepted and released by the Tasmanian Government.
In recent years there has been a focus at both the State and National level on container deposit systems and the broader issue of packaging waste.
The Tasmanian analysis has found that while there are some benefits to a State-based CDS, these would come at a significant cost.
The Tasmanian Government accepted these findings, and the Minister for Environment, Parks and Heritage has announced the decision not to proceed with the introduction of a State-based CDS system.
