Nominations open for the 2017 EPA Sustainability Award

09 June 2017

The Environment Protection Authority is calling for nominations for the 2017 EPA Sustainability Award, which is one of several categories of the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards run by Awards Australia, designed to recognise individuals, organisations and groups that are making a difference in their local communities and across the State.

EPA Director, Mr Wes Ford said that the Sustainability Award was a way of showcasing innovative Tasmanian businesses that have a commitment to sustainability, particularly in regard to clean production technology, energy and water conservation, resource efficiency, waste minimisation, reuse and recycling.

“The Sustainability Award is also a way of promoting the EPA’s vision for a Tasmania that is clean, healthy and sustainable – meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs,” said Mr Ford.

“I’d like to encourage businesses that have developed and implemented practical clean production measures to nominate for the Award this year, no matter what industry sector they belong to,” he said.

“Submissions can be for a project or initiative that results in measurable improvements in any or all areas of clean production, waste minimisation and resource efficiency, and results in wider community or flow-on sector benefits.

“We are really keen to promote local businesses and organisations which can demonstrate innovation, leadership and best practice, and who can prove the economic, environmental and social benefits as a result,” said Mr Ford.

Nominations are open from Friday 8 June to Wednesday 23 August, and the winners will be announced at a Gala presentation on Friday 1 December.
