Unreasonable Conduct by External Parties Policy

Unreasonable conduct is any behaviour by a person which, because of its nature or frequency, raises substantial health, safety, resource or equity issues for the people to whom it is directed, and those around them.

As well as affecting EPA staff, unreasonable conduct can also negatively impact upon other EPA stakeholders (e.g. EPA resources are diverted to managing the unreasonable conduct).

Most stakeholders act reasonably and responsibly in their interactions with the EPA, even if they are experiencing high levels of stress or frustration. However, in a small number of cases external parties display unreasonable conduct either as a one-off act or as acts that are repeated to the point of becoming unreasonable.

If an external party’s behaviour is or becomes unreasonable the EPA will be guided by this policy.
