The Proposal
The proposal is to construct and operate a beef and small stock abattoir to produce a maximum of 10,000 tonnes of product per year. The proposal comprises a slaughterhouse, meat processing works and a rendering facility, with conjoint facilities for holding stock, composting by-products, land-spreading of paunch/compost, wastewater treatment and irrigation of land.
The proponent has lodged a Permit Application with a supporting Development Proposal and Environmental Management Plan (DPEMP) to King Island Council.
The application was referred to the Board of the
Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the
Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).
Development Proposal and Environmental Management Plan
The purpose of the DPEMP is to provide a source of information upon which interested individuals, groups, government agencies and the Board may consider the environmental impacts of the proposal.
The DPEMP was prepared by the proponent on the basis of the Project Specific Guidelines for preparation of a DPEMP which were provided by the Board.

The environmental assessment report has now been completed and can be viewed below. The report contains the permit conditions required by the Board to be included in the land use permit, if a permit is granted, by Council.
