The Proposal

Southern Waste Solutions had proposed to construct and operate a waste remediation facility at their existing landfill at Lot 1,3 & 4 Arthur Highway (CT 126073/1, 3 & 4) also known as "Copping Tip" Blue Hills Road, Copping to remediate controlled waste.

The proponent had lodged a Development Application with a supporting Environmental Effects Report (EER) to Sorell Council.

The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).

Public Exhibition of Documentation

A copy of the permit application and all plans and other documentation submitted with the permit application (including the EER) are available for public inspection. The public comment period is now closed. 


Public Representations

In accordance with s.57(5) of the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 (LUPA), any person may make a representation relating to the permit application (including the EER) from Saturday 30 November 2013 to Monday 16 December 2013 in writing to:

Environmental Effects Report

The purpose of the EER is to provide a source of information upon which interested individuals, groups, government agencies and the Board may consider the environmental impacts of the proposal.

The EER was prepared by the proponent on the basis of the project specific guidelines for preparation of an EER which were provided by the Board.

Environmental Assessment Report and EPA decision

The environmental assessment report has now been completed and can be viewed below. The report contains the permit conditions required by the Board to be included in the land use permit, if a permit is granted, by Council.
