The Proposal

Wacks Crushing Pty Ltd is seeking a permit to operate an abandoned quarry located off Liapota Road, Tewkesbury.  The proposal includes extracting and processing up to 200,000 cubic metres of product per annum.  Material will be won by drilling and blasting and ripping where possible and then crushed and screened to produce various products.  Due to the nature of the basalt material, it will require washing on the final output conveyor.

The proponent has lodged a Development Application with a supporting Environmental Effects Report (EER) to Burnie City Council.

The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).
