The Proposal

The proposal includes a number of changes in the operational aspects of the landfill to build future flexibility and improve ability to service northern Tasmania, specifically:

•  Increase in quantity of waste able to be received at the landfill from 80,000 tpa to 130,000 tpa.

•  Revision of permitted wastes accepted at the facility to remove the requirements of temporary approvals previously provided under the existing permit.

•  Installation and operation of a BeneVap (or similar system) leachate treatment system to reduce leachate volumes.

•  Operation of a landfarming area for the treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated soils (up to 10,000 tpa).

•  Permanent approval of acid sulphate soil treatment at the site (currently operating under temporary approval).

•  Operation of a waste shredder to extract metal from specific waste sources to improve onsite resource recovery.
