​​​​​​​The Proposal

The proponent is proposing to intensify production at the existing facility from 500 tonnes to 786 tonnes standing biomass at any one time. In addition, the proponent is proposing to expand the site to increase maximum standing biomass to 1446 tonnes by adding a further 660 tonnes of capacity. A new onshore recirculating aquaculture system RAS is proposed, which includes a new wastewater treatment plant and upgrades to the existing plant.

The proponent has lodged a Permit Application with a supporting Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to Huon Valley Council.

The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).

Environment​​al Impact Statement Guidelines

EIS Guidelines have been prepared by the Board to assist the proponent to prepare a case for assessment. Based on the information contained in the Notice of Intent, the guidelines identify the key issues which are expected to be relevant to the assessment of the proposal.

Public Exhibition of Documentation

A copy of the permit application and all plans and other documentation submitted with the permit application (including the EIS) were made available for public inspection, the public consultation period has now closed.

Environmental Impact Statement

The purpose of the EIS​ is to provide a source of information upon which interested individuals, groups, government agencies and the Board may consider the environmental impacts of the proposal.

The EIS was prepared by the proponent on the basis of the Guidelines for preparation of an EIS which were provided by the Board.
