The Proposal
Kahuna Pastoral Company is proposing to intensify operations at the existing Thomson's Quarry, located off Styx River Road, approximately 6km from the Gordon River Road, Westerway. The proposal includes an increase in extraction from 5,000 cubic metres to 20,000 cubic metres per annum, and an increase in materials handling (crushing and screening of material) from 1,000 cubic metres to 3,000 cubic metres per annum.
Development Application
This proposal was referred directly by Derwent Valley Council to the Board of the EPA on 18 November 2025 as a development application (DA NO. 2025/144) and therefore a Notice of Intent (NOI) was not required.
