The Proposal
Pentarch Logisitcs Pty Ltd is proposing modification of its existing Level 2 woodchip mill to include a high-technology wood optimisation hub (sawmill) to divert up to 143,000 cubic meters of its existing eucalypt pulp log feedstock to the wood optimisation hub where logs will be scanned and assessed for suitability of milling. The sawmill will then process the suitable logs, producing up to 60,000 cubic meters of pallet grade lumber for constructing pallets onsite.
The activities existing production limit of 650,000 tonnes of woodchip produced per year is not proposed to change, nor is an increase of feedstock logs delivered to the activity proposed.
The proponent has lodged a Permit Application with a supporting Environmental Effects Report (EER) to Burnie City Council.
The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).
