The Proposal

Southern Midlands Council is proposing to intensify operations at the Stonehenge Quarry, located off Stonehenge and Swanston Roads, approximately 15 kilometres northeast of Tunnack. The proposal involves a production increase from 5,000 cubic metres (m³) to 20,000 m³ of weathered dolerite per year and includes the crushing and screening of material.

Stonehenge Quarry is a current level 1 quarry (mining lease: 1977 P/M), supplying materials to council and private projects throughout the municipality, with a current maximum annual extraction limit of 5,000 m³ and processing limit of 1,000 m³.

The proponent has lodged a Permit Application with a supporting Environmental Effects Report (EER) to Soluthern Midlands Council.

The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).
