​The Proposal​

Tasmania H2 Pty Ltd proposes to construct and operate an ammonia production plant that will produce up to 300,000 tonnes of anhydrous liquid ammonia per year. It will use an electrolytic process to produce hydrogen from raw water treated on site. The hydrogen will then be combined with nitrogen separated from air to make ammonia. The facility will also include an on-site wastewater treatment plant. 

The proponent intends to lodge a permit application with George Town Council under the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993. The proposal will be subject to an environmental impact assessment by the Board of the EPA (the Board) in accordance with the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPC Act).
