The Proposal
TasWater has proposed the excavation of clay and gravel on land adjacent to Swansea Dam that will be used to repair and upgrade the dam and to create new water storages on adjoining agricultural land. It includes two 'borrow pits' and excavation of an existing spoil mound, with a screening plant to be utilized to process the material extracted from the spoil mound. A total of 100,000 cubic meters of materials excavation is proposed.
The proponent lodged a Development Application with a supporting Environmental Effects Report (EER) to Glamorgan Spring Bay Council.
The application was referred to the Board of the
Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the
Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).
Public Exhibition of Documentation and Public Representations
A copy of the permit application and all plans and other documentation submitted with the permit application (including the EER) was made available for public inspection. The public comment period has now closed.
Environmental Effects Report
The purpose of the EER is to provide a source of information upon which interested individuals, groups, government agencies and the Board may consider the environmental impacts of the proposal.
The EER was prepared by the proponent on the basis of the project specific guidelines for preparation of an EER which were provided by the Board.
