Use of Therapeutants in the Marine Environment

​​​The EPA currently regulates 44 marine finfish farms producing salmonids (salmon and trout) within 7 Marine Farming Development Plan Areas throughout Tasmania, including D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon River, Great Oyster Bay and Mercury Passage, Macquarie Harbour, Storm Bay North and Storm Bay off Trumpter Bay North Bruny Island, Kanamaluka - Tamar Estuary and Turrakana - Tasman Peninsula and Norfolk Bay.

The location of all Marine finfish farms and associated environmental licences can be accessed via the EPA Regulated Premises layer on LISTmap.

​In accordance with the Environmental Standards for Tasmanian Marine Finfish Farming 2023, all Environmental Licence Holders are required to notify the Director of proposed antibiotic treatments prior to treating fish and to undertake monitoring for antibiotic residues in accordance with a technical standard or the written requirements of the Director. ​

Antibiotics currently used in Tasmanian finfish farming are oxytetracycline (OTC) and florfenicol.
