Waste Management

The EPA regulates key aspects of waste management in Tasmania.  This includes the regulation of Tasmania’s larger waste depots; and of controlled waste (sometimes referred to as hazardous waste).  The EPA assesses compliance with, and enforces, relevant rules and laws.

The EPA participates nationally in waste initiatives, contributing to and adopting agreed national management approaches, and providing a range of Tasmanian waste data to the Australian Government for inclusion in its annual waste reporting.

  • Controlled Waste
Controlled waste is the most hazardous category of waste and requires careful management.
  • Landfills
The EPA is responsible for the regulation of landfill activities and undertakes enforcement action for unacceptable waste management practices.
