Controlled Waste Category Codes

​​​​​The following list provides Tasmanian waste category codes and descriptions.  The list is based on the 73 controlled waste categories and codes listed in Appendix F of the Australian hazardous ​waste data and reporting standard, 2019 (the Standard). In Tasmania, Appendix F of the Standard is taken as a de facto update to Schedule A, List 1 of the National Environment Protection (Movement of Controlled Waste between States and Territories) Measure 1998. Tasmania also includes two local jurisdiction controlled waste categories on the list - Sewage Sludge (K130) and Waste that is derived or arises from fish that have died or been killed in the course of finfish farming (DEADF) - which do not appear in the Standard. 

It is the responsibility of a controlled waste producer, agent, transporter or receiving facility operator to accurately describe controlled waste for the purpose of any handling or transport documentation. It is therefore important that the correct waste code and description are selected from the list below.
