Site History Reviews and Developing a Conceptual Site Model

The first step of the assessment process, as nominated by the National Environment Protection (Assessment of Site Contamination) Measure (NEPM), Australian Standard AS4482.1-2005 and various state-based guidance documents, involves the completion of a Site History Review.

The information captured in the site history review can be utilised to create an initial Conceptual Site Model (CSM). A CSM is fundamentally a written or pictorial representation of an environmental system defining the contaminants, their source(s) and the possibly pathways of exposure to human and environmental receptors.
