The main legislation controlling the environmental management of contaminated land in Tasmania is the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994. Regulations have been made to cover particular aspects, such as underground fuel tanks. The National Environment Protection (Assessment of Site Contamination) Measure is also applicable, and is given effect in Tasmania as a State Policy.
Public and environmental health issues are addressed by the Department of Health, and workplace safety issues are covered by WorkSafe Tasmania.
