The Lady Nelson is a replica three-masted sailing brig operating in Tasmanian waters by the Tasmanian Sail Training Association (TSTA). The TSTA is a not-for-profit volunteer youth organisation whose mission is to provide sail training opportunities to school children and the youth of Tasmania.
Schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, and other organisations often charter the vessel for personal development and training voyages of various durations. Many of her sail-training exercises are conducted in the waters of the lower Derwent and Channel.
The Directive takes into account the Lady Nelson's special circumstances as a training vessel for children and young people in State waters, by allowing the discharge of disinfected sewage closer to land than would otherwise be permitted.
The Lady Nelson can accommodate up to 18 persons on extended sail-training trips, and has toileting facilities that include holding tanks, maceration and a disinfection system.
