EPA responds to media about Tassal's previous waste capture trial

The EPA responded to media inquiries about Tassal’s previous trial of under fish pen waste capture in Macquarie Harbour.

EPA Director, Mr Wes Ford said that small scale trials, which directly relate to marine farming activities, do not require approval from the EPA under the Macquarie Harbour Marine Farm Development Plan.

However, any further trialling of Tassal’s proposed large scale waste capture system in the Harbour will be part of the current assessment process.

The EPA has issued Macquarie Harbour WCS Guidelines May 2017 to Tassal for the preparation of an Environmental Management Plan for its proposed waste collection system.
