Aquenal and the School of Geography and Environmental Studies (UTAS) are hosting an information session to discuss recent Australian developments in coastal and estuarine assessment frameworks and their application to Tasmania.
Assessment frameworks are widely used to report on condition, pressures, values and vulnerability of environmental assets, including coastal environments, and have broad management applications.
The guest speakers include the widely respected Dr David Scheltinga from the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency.
David has been working on a framework for assessing the health of coastal waters (including wetlands, streams and estuaries).
For example, this framework is currently being used in the Burnett Mary NRM Region (QLD) for estuarine monitoring and reporting and is also being adopted in a number of
states to monitor changes in ecosystem condition in response to changing stressor levels.
David will also demonstrate a practical software tool for recording and reporting on the condition of environmental assets.
10.00 am – 12.00 pm, Tuesday 3rd March 2009
Conference Room, Level 6 Lands Building
