DPIPWE hosting the 2009 AELERT Conference this week

Several DPIPWE staff have key roles at the 6th Annual Australasian Environmental Law Enforcement and Regulators Network (AELERT) Conference being hosted by the Department from 15-17 September at the Wrest Point Conference Centre.

Deputy Secretaries Warren Jones, David Hudson and John Whittington are coordinating plenary and breakout sessions and Colin Shepherd (Manager - Major Projects), Rosemary Cross (Senior Environmental Officer, Environment Division) Pete Smith (Director, Heritage Tasmania) and Ester Guerzoni (Senior Executive Officer - Heritage Tasmania) are presenting papers.

AELERT is a network of environmental regulatory agencies that are responsible for the management of natural resources or the protection of the environment.

The conference theme this year is "Regulation in a Dynamic Future – Driving Changing Attitudes".

Keynote speakers include Professor Tim Flannery, M C Mehta from the M C Mehta Environmental Foundation in India, Professor Rob White of the University of Tasmania and Joe Woodward from the Department of Environment and Climate Change (NSW).
