Office 07 it's all about the ribbon

Environment staff in the Lands building are beginning to work with the new features of Microsoft Office 2007 software being rolled out, including the 'ribbon' which replaces traditional menus.

For those attached to their existing Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) fear not, DEPHA's intrepid training team at Information Management is smoothing the way to Office 2007 with lunchtime training sessions.

"We've organised training sessions for the Environment Division which is receiving Office 2007 with their upgraded computers from this week," team leader Garth Verity said.

"The training sessions cover two topics: Introductions to the Ribbon - the Key Change in Office 2007 and New Features Specific to Word 2007 and accompany the e-learning material located on KnowledgeShare," Garth said.

The first training session was held yesterday with staff quizzing Garth about the ribbon as well as compatibility with old versions of Word.

"The great thing is you can save any documents created in Word 2007 in a format to suit Word 2003 or any other previous version," Garth said.

Further training sessions are as follows:

  • Introduction to the Ribbon - Tuesday 23 September and Tuesday 30 September

    1:00-1:30pm
    6th floor meeting room
    Lands Building

Additional session: Monday 22 September 12:45pm-1:15pm

  • New Features Specific to Word 2007 - Thursday 18 September, Thursday 25 September and Thursday 2 October

  • 1:00-1:30pm
    6th floor meeting room
    Lands Building

Additional session: Monday 22 September 1:30pm-2:00pm

Staff with questions about the training can contact Garth while those experiencing problems with their computer upgrade should contact the ICT Helpdesk.
