The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is inviting feedback on proposed standards for several internationally recognised chemicals of concern and lower-concern chemicals and proposed variations to existing standards.
Three chemicals internationally agreed to be of the highest concern:
- Hexachlorobenzene and polychlorinated biphenyls are included in the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
- Polychlorinated terphenyls are listed on the Rotterdam Convention.
Two groups of lower concern chemicals:
- Lauryl (dodecyl sulfates) and
- Linear alkylbenzene sulfonates.
Consultation is open until Friday, 25 October 2024.
