Consultation open on proposed standards under the Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is inviting feedback on proposed standards for several internationally recognised chemicals of concern and lower-concern chemicals and proposed variations to existing standards.

Three chemicals internationally agreed to be of the highest concern:

  • Hexachlorobenzene and polychlorinated biphenyls are included in the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
  • Polychlorinated terphenyls are listed on the Rotterdam Convention.

Two groups of lower concern chemicals:

  • Lauryl (dodecyl sulfates) and
  • Linear alkylbenzene sulfonates.
Consultation is open until Friday, 25 October 2024.
