EPA considers proposal for Increase of Annual Production at Asphalt Batch Plant, Ulverstone

A delegate of the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (Board) has completed assessment of a proposal by Asphalt Suppliers Pty Ltd for an increase in annual production at the existing asphalt batch plant located at 30 and 34 Industrial Drive, Ulverstone, in the Central Coast municipality.

The proposal is for an increase in the maximum production limit from 20,000 tonnes to 30,000 tonnes of asphalt product per year at the existing level 2 asphalt batch plant.

Public consultation was open for 28 days from 21 June 2023. No representations were made.

The Board's delegate has considered the relevant issues and determined that the proposal can be managed in an environmentally sustainable manner, with conditions imposed. Key conditions require management of odorous gases and maintenance of emission control equipment to reduce potential impacts to air quality and prevent fumes and odours from causing environmental nuisance.

The Board's delegate undertook assessment of the proposal in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment Principles defined in Section 74 of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994.

This decision and all assessment documents can be viewed on the EPA website at Asphalt Suppliers Pty Ltd, Intensification Asphalt Production Facility, 34 Industrial Drive, Ulverstone | EPA Tasmania.
