A delegate of the Board of the EPA has concluded assessment of a proposal by Allan Lord Holdings Pty Ltd to expand the existing Purdys Road Quarry, located about 5 km south-east of Smithton.
The proposal will increase the quarry's disturbance area by 1.2 hectares, from 5 hectares to 6.2 hectares. There are no changes to the current annual production limit of 50,000 cubic metres, or to how material is extracted and processed.
Public consultation took place from 18 March to 1 April 2026, with one submission received. The main issue raised was stormwater management.
The Board's delegate determined that the proposal can be managed in an environmentally sustainable way, subject to conditions. These include:
limiting the quarry's expansion to the east
improving and maintaining stormwater management systems
managing noise to acceptable levels
controlling dust emissions
maintaining quarry floor levels to protect groundwater
The Board's delegate undertook assessment of the proposal in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment Principles in Section 74 of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994.
