The EPA is proud to announce the Semi-Finalists for the 2024 EPA Sustainability Awards.
Both awards, the EPA Sustainability Award (Industry) and EPA Sustainability Award (Community) form part of the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards, run by Awards Australia, and aim to showcase a range of inspiring, innovative approaches to delivering measurable improvements in preventing pollution, conserving energy and water, minimising waste, and maximising resource efficiency; and how these initiatives have positively impacted the business and communities they operate within.
After receiving a record number of submissions, judges were set the challenging task of selecting a shortlist, looking for entries who were able to provide social, economic and environmental benefits; show innovative aspects such as changes to technology, process and training; explain how improvements to environmental sustainability were measured; reflect on challenges and learnings from concept to implementation and how these were or are being overcome; and detail the methods used to share information about the project or initiative within the business, community sector, and other key stakeholders.
From recycled water initiatives in the biggest operating tin mine in Tasmania (in fact Australia) to biodegradable dental, hair and skincare; wildfire mitigation through drone technology, to a local Repair Café diverting over 300 kilograms of waste from landfill, each finalist has, in their own way, contributed to the betterment of Tasmania's environment.
Of the Semi-Finalists, four will be chosen as Finalists in each category following a vote by the expert judging panel. Winners will be announced at the Awards Gala Presentation Dinner on 18 October 2024.
Congratulations to the below Semi-Finalists.
