The EPA commissioned the Scottish Association of Marine Sciences (SAMS) in the UK to undertake reviews of the current Broadscale Environmental Monitoring Programs (BEMPs) operating in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon River, Storm Bay and Macquarie Harbour.
These comprehensive reviews are being undertaken by Professors Kenny Black and Paul Tett.
Both Professors Black and Tett are world-leading experts on the Environmental Interactions of Aquaculture, and they were tasked to evaluate the suitability and efficacy of these monitoring programs across various Tasmanian marine and estuarine environments.
As part of the review process, SAMS were asked to provide a list of recommendations to rationalise, improve, and modernise the monitoring program.
The first of these reviews has been completed, and outlines several recommendations for updating the Huon Estuary and D'Entrecasteaux Channel BEMP.
Further information can be found at Huon Estuary and D'Entrecasteaux Channel BEMP Review.
When the remaining two reviews for Storm Bay and Macquarie Harbour are completed, each of these reviews will also be made available on this website.
