Nominations have opened for the 2025 Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Sustainability Awards and the hunt is on for the next industry and community champions working towards a cleaner Tasmania.

The Awards recognise the practical efforts being made by businesses from any industry or community sector who have developed and implemented cleaner production initiatives, delivering measurable improvements in energy and water conservation, resource efficiency, waste minimisation, reuse and recycling.

The two awards are part of the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards (TCAA) run by Awards Australia:

EPA CEO, Catherine Murdoch said having two awards recognising sustainability across both the industry and community sectors demonstrates the importance of sustainability within the Tasmanian Community.

“The Awards are open to Tasmanian businesses, groups and organisations, and submissions can be for a project or initiative that has resulted in measurable improvements and results in wider community or flow-on sector benefits," said Ms Murdoch.

“We want to encourage anyone who knows of a business or has an organisation in their community doing great things for sustainability, to reach out and encourage them to nominate, or refer them directly to the TCAA."

From a strong field of contenders, Lenah Game Meats Pty Ltd and Sustainable Living Tasmania were the 2024 winners in the Industry and Community categories respectively.

Katrina and John Kelly from Lenah Game Meats said that participating in last year's Awards was validating for their business.

“It gave us the opportunity to assess our environmental strengths and weaknesses, sharpening our sustainability focus," Mrs Kelly said.

Nominations are now open until Wednesday 16 July 2025, and the winners will be announced at a gala presentation in October.
