The third update to the per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) National Environmental Management Plan (NEMP) has been released by the National Chemicals Working Group on 4 March 2025.
- The PFAS NEMP 3.0 provides nationally consistent guidelines for assessment and management of PFAS contamination and waste, which are applied by jurisdictions within their own environmental framework.
- The PFAS NEMP 3.0 has adopted nationally recognised PFAS criteria, such as tolerable daily intake (TDI) set by health regulators (Food Standards Australia New Zealand), the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG), or the Water Quality Guidelines (WQG), that are current at the time of publication.
- The EPA is working to implement the PFAS NEMP 3.0 as it applies to land contamination, effluent and biosolids from the state's level 2 wastewater treatment plants, landfills and industrial facilities and other regulated environmentally relevant activities.
More information about the EPA's role in implementing the PFAS NEMP 3.0 is available at the PFAS Contamination page.
