The Environment Protection Authority together with Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania have partnered with DECKEE to develop incident reporting functionality on the DECKEE boating app.
Users of the app are now able to report incidents and hazards including oil spills, navigational safety issues and marine farming debris in real time, allowing government agencies to receive accurate and timely information to aid swift response effort.
The DECKEE boating app is easy to use. Users just press and hold on the map to drop a pin on the incident location, then select the type of incident, then follow the prompts.
The app has already been endorsed and recommended as the official boating app in Tasmania by MAST, which has resulted in more than 33,000 waterway users already getting on board.
DECKEE provides those in or around the marine environment with another method to report environmental issues to response agencies. This complements the EPA's existing 1800 005 171 Pollution Incidents and Complaints Hotline service.
The DECKEE boating app is available now for free to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
