The Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA) is the primary environment protection and pollution control legislation in Tasmania. Its focus is the prevention, reduction and remediation of environmental harm, particularly from pollution and waste.
A number of acts and policies underpin Tasmania’s environmental management and pollution control systems.
A range of acts and regulations are supported by State Policies and Environment Protection Policies, while National Environment Protection Policies also provide national consistency across a range of matters.
