BEMP Monitoring

The Broadscale Environmental Monitoring Program (BEMP) provides a comprehensive assessment of ecological condition in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon Estuary. The program commenced in March 2009, and is currently undertaken by all finfish environmental licence holders in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon River Marine Farming Development Plan area.

The objective of this program is to document broadscale spatial and temporal trends for key environmental parameters, allowing assessment of the environmental effects of finfish aquaculture in the region. Fifteen sites within the Marine Farm Development Plan area are monitored throughout the year to assess spatial and temporal patterns of water and sediment quality.
