Reporting sewage spills and other incidents

‚ÄčThe EPA has developed the Sewage Spill Notification Guidelines to help wastewater managers classify and report incidents as required by Section 32 of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994.

  Sewage Spill Notification Guidelines   (152Kb)

Incidents may be reported to the EPA by phoning 1800 005 171.

A follow-up report should be submitted by the person responsible for the incident within five working days of the notification.

These guidelines focus on sewage spills because this is the most common type of incident in the wastewater industry. Other types of incident that cause or may cause environmental harm may also need to be reported.
