The Proposal

Allan Lord Holdings Pty Ltd is proposing to expand the footprint of its Purdys Road Quarry, allowing the life of the quarry to be extended. The quarry is currently regulated as a Level 2 quarry by the EPA.

The site is located at Purdys Road approximately 5 kms south-east of Smithton and within mining lease 1398P/M. An application has been lodged for an additional mining lease 2144P/M to cover the proposed expansion area.

The Proposal does not involve changing the current regulatory limit of 50,000 cubic meters per year, nor does it involve changing the current methods of extraction (rock breaking and excavation) and processing (crushing and screening).

The proponent has lodged a Permit Application with a supporting Environmental Effects Report (EER) to Circular Head Council.

The application was referred to the Board of the Environment Protection Authority (the Board) for assessment under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA).
